Why I Now Support John McCain

Over the course of the last month and a half or so I have come around to believe in the man whom I once thought out of touch. As a young American and a young conservative I am proud to say that I stand by John Sydney McCain 100%.

I had been strongly leaning towards former Senator Fred Thompson, as had many conservatives, but the real Thompson is not the Reagan we were all hoping for. In fact, this movement cannot wait for another Reagan, this movement most bring forth another great leader with the character of Reagen, but not the same M.O. What John McCain can do for this movement and this country is exactly what we need at this unique crossroads in our history.

I will be speaking more, both as a Granite Stater and as a young American, about Senator McCain and my extensive reseaons for supporting him as the campaign season continues to unfold. What perhaps I can say right at this moment is that if you were watching the GOP Debate last week you should recall that Senator McCain was the only candidate praised by another candidate. Gov. Huckabee alluded to Senator McCain's wisdom and honor numerous times that night and that should be a sign that even among leaders John McCain stands out as the best.

A Traditional Conservative Victory!

The probable election upset by Paul Broun is very good news for the future of Conservatism. He is straight up traditional limited government conservative and straight from the grassroots. Re-alignment anyone?

The Cost of Democrats

http://www.nrsc.org/CostOfDemocrats/#action

Apparently the NRSC is launching a campaign to connect Democrats in Congress with higher taxes. I think the state by state tax map is brilliant. It'll be interesting to see how much affect this campaign will have.

Questioning F. Thompson's Conservatism?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19263100/site/newsweek/print/1/displaymode/1098/

This article was from a reporter who went through Thompson's records in TN which were made public after he left Congress. I wasn't very impressed with it.

Basically, the points brought up in the article hardly warrant the title the author gave it. Conducting an equally scruitinous prosecution of Democrats and Republicans in the 96' fundraising scandal is hardly an indictor of how conservative he is. If anything it legitimizes him as a straight shooter possessed with great moral integrity. Maybe one could say that he's not a "right-wing nut job", but fairly prosecuting alleged corruption in both the Democratic Party and his own party far from a determining factor in his ideological commitment to conservatism.

On the bright side, if this is all the dirt they can dig up on Fred with full unfettered access to his past record in politics, then Thompson 08' is certainly in good shape.

Article of the Day: ACU on Thompson

http://www.conservative.org/columnists/keene/070619dk.htm

This article pretty much sums up and concurs with my previous analysis of the top tier. At least Republicans know that Thompson is a reliable conservative. If he can cast himself as the next Reagan, well, all the better.

Interesting Article on GOP's Identity Crisis

http://www.startribune.com/562/story/1253720.html

I'd love to discuss this with folks. I'm not necessarily in agreement with the article's analysis of the GOP, but it does raise some questions. I think the answer lies in reinventing the ideas of Reagan and Goldwater without sounding old (please, tell me how that can be done). Most Republicans (about 90%) identify themselves as "Reagan Republicans" as opposed to "George W. Bush Republicans".
